Notes From the Med: Bilingual Schooling in Spain

This past summer my sweet sister Katie moved her family of 6 to Spain. She writes me weekly ‘Notes From the Med.’ To follow along on her Spanish adventures check out her blog, Katie Wanders.

Hey Sister,
How are you doing?  I saw your pictures from the Sewing Summit, it looked like you had a blast. I have to say I am a teensy bit jealous of you having fun without me.
How is the new school year going in your house? We are about a month in and so I thought I would give you an update.
As you probably know, we chose a bilingual school for the children. The two oldest children attended school in Japan and because of that we knew how hard it would be to go into a foreign language school cold turkey. We ultimately decided that the bilingual route would be an easier transition into the language and the culture.
And it has been easier for them to adjust with the bilingual curriculum, they feel a little better knowing that they will understand what is going on at least half the day. Although, school here still has been a major adjustment, the biggest being the children have a 9-5 school day and 2-3 hours of homework every night.
But, we have remained positive and things are getting easier. These pictures are of my kindergartner (Infantil 1) from the first week of school and then from just this last week when I couldn’t walk him fast enough to his class.
How is Hattie adjusting?
Besos,
Katie
