We have been excited about all the flowers blooming in our neighborhood. I love the idea of knowing the names of the different plants around, and hope to teach my kids a few of them. I thought pressing a few of the little blossoms would be a fun way to experience and later go back and look at some of our favorites. We asked our neighbors if they would mind if we cut a couple flowers from their yard to press them.
I had visions of making a mini flower press using a board, some card board, and bolts. Seemed simple enough, but the idea was still something bigger than I was able to do this time. As a girl we had a huge dictionary that my brothers and I had used to press some flowers from my grandfather’s funeral, so I thought we could do the same. I used parchment paper to protect the pages of the book. The kids were a little disappointed we were going to have to wait for the final results, but a botany lesson that also teaches patience is fine by me!
